Silica sand filter, also known as mechanical filter, is a kind of water filtration equipment mainly used to remove the granular impurities, suspended solids, colloids, and other substances in water.

It adopts silica sand as the filler. Its filtration medium can be one or more substances among silica sand, anthracite, granular porous ceramics and manganese sand. The height of filtering material layer is more than 1200mm. The filtering material granularity and height should be in conformity with relevant technical requirements.

Under normal temperature and a certain pressure, through the flocculation, absorption and interception of filtration media, impurities in original solution is wiped out and the SDI of filtered water is greatly reduced.

Besides, silica sand filter is equipped with protective devices and monitoring instruments. It has backwashing function and the dirtiness or other pollutant can be washed away quickly with a little amount of water. The filtration accuracy is 0.005-0.01m, and thecolloidal micelle and high polymer organic matters can be removed effectively.

Taking SYS-3 Silica Sand Filter as an Example
SYS-3 silica sand filter is a kind of stainless steel multi-media filter whose diameter is 600mm. Inside the filter there is well graded silica sand. The filtering layer height is usually more than or equal to 1200mm. Under normal working condition, the total water output is 3m3/hr and the effluent quality SDI is not more than 4.
The design current velocity is 10m/h.
This silica sand filter is fitted with backwashing control valve, thus manual backwashing can be achieved.
